Philips report on the 2015 Distinguished Gentleman’s Manchester Ride
I arrived early at Manchester as I had my pickup to unload and a needed to dig deep into the showroom to extract a Bonneville as me steed for the morning. Even at 9:30 am there was a rather dapper gentleman stood by his bike, waiting for me to arrive. Wow I knew it was going to be a busy day! After that the car park just kept filling up, I recon we easily had the 138 plus that have registered for the ride.
The atmosphere was akin to that of a good party, where everyone is friends and there is no tension. We even distributed DGR buns, and cameras were out in force. We had a group photograph and I uttered a few words about prostate cancer and riding safely, reminding everyone we were all going to do this in a gentile way. Once we managed to get the ride under way we certainly caused a stir. People were stopping in their tracks and taking pictures, others had their mouths open and plenty waved in support.
On arrival at Dukes 92 it was obvious that some rider had taken a slightly shorter route! But that was no problem, it really didn’t matter. So long as everyone arrived safely, enjoyed the day and raised a few quid, nobody was going to stress.
At Dukes 92 people had a drink, mingled and generally enjoyed the late September sunshine and the amazing atmosphere.
Above all, thanks to everyone that took part. To date the Manchester ride has raised a whopping £10,755 to support prostate cancer, let’s all really push to get more money in as this is such an important charity ....... and let’s hope for a repeat performance of this truly unique and fabulous day next year.
