With the 2015 season being well under way it’s good to see the new registrations racking up on the sales boards at both our stores. We are lucky that we are seeing a lot of repeat customers and that is always good as it usually means you have done something right the first time around. We have booked our stand space at the Manchester Bike show this being at the Event City near the Trafford Centre on the 28TH 29TH March. I really enjoy this show and it has a real friendly atmosphere with loads of clubs exhibiting and good parking why not give us a visit and soak up the energy.
Having attended various industry conferences and keeping a close eye on the market it seems apparent to me that this year good used stock and even new stock is going to be in short supply. Both stores are stocked to the rafters with quality used machines. This is intentional and something we are always mindful of. Looking at the new Tiger 800 XRx and XCx are we could be looking at May delivery for orders being placed at the end of next week. That’s no joke. The total powered two wheeled market that’s Mopeds Scooters Big bikes all rolled into one broke back through the one hundred thousand mark in 2014 ending on 101277 that’s 10.2% up on 2013.
The Motor Cycle Industry are forecasting that growth to carry on in 2015 and are expecting a total market to end at something around the 110000. On the back of all this used sales are certainly buoyant and we have probably the biggest and best stock of used bikes going into the season. As regards riding, all my trips have been work related over the last month mainly on a Kahki Green Tiger 800 doing a bit of commuting. I haven’t ridden any classic stuff but we have just re commissioned a Norton Commando that had been lurking in storage for about five years. It was under a sheet with a little ACF 50 protecting the bare aluminium from the element’s. With a bit of fettling and some tlc it started second kick and sounds sweet as nut. My intention is to run it a bit through the summer and possibly even add it to our bike hire fleet. Firstly though I need to prove its reliability then other people can have the pleasure.
During the winter months our staff attended training courses back at the factory and we are all ready for the impending flurry as the sun gets ever higher. I love the anticipation as everyone comes alive there is a sort of expectancy about the year ahead. Although at this stage I have no big rides planned I am sure I will find an excuse to get some miles under my belt and hopefully enjoy the summer ahead. My tip is if you are thinking of changing or buying a fresh bike this season then be out there looking early as the best stuff usually finds a home first.
